Hike cut short

 Some pictures from  the beautiful (shortened) hike in the Sierra Nevada:

JMT Day 1-Wednesday, August 14

 This morning I dropped Eric and his friend Paul off at the the start of their hike on the John Muir Trail (JMT)!!

We spent the night last night at Mammoth Lake so they could get a good start this morning.

According to the update from Eric and Paul, they hiked 13 miles today and had a GREAT time!

I know it says only 11.2 miles, but I am not sure of their exact path; I only have the starting and ending points and their report of 13 miles. They would have taken more than 5 hours as well, but you get the idea.  

If you want to situate the John Muir Trail as part of the Pacific Crest Trail (which runs the entire length of the US west coast), here is a larger view of where they are hiking:

Their hike will take about 14 days and they will end up close to Mount Whitney.

Five days before start of hike

 For those that are interested in following my location as I hike the John Muir Trail, it will be posted here semi-regularly. My hike begins August 14, and if I'm lucky, it will conclude August 28.

The plan is to hike about 13 miles a day (~20km).
